Hats & Ladders engages students to explore career possibilities with self-assessments, connected activities, and mini-challenges. By providing exposure to a broad spectrum of careers, it enables students to draw connections between their personal attributes and multiple pathways to career success.
I led a design thinking workshop with the client to develop user stories for the high schoolers, along with user pathways, paper prototypes for the self assessments and ‘ladder’ exploration. With the insights we generated from the stories, I restructured the app, made the user profile central to the focus of the game, and simplified the achievement system. I redesigned the UI to improve the user experience for an older and more sophisticated app user.
Our workshop helped focus on the high school user persona, to pinpoint their wins and frustrations with school and career exploration.
Early wireframes of the profile driven approach. The early iterations had much more complexity around gaining “experience points” towards specific careers.
