Boys & Girl’s Clubs of America wanted to transform the way their young members experience technology. As the Art Director, I developed the UX/UI and designed the online educational tool for 4 million Boys and Girls Club members to learn to code, build robots, and other STEM related curriculum. My.Future encompasses all computer-based curriculum for the nationwide club.
My.Future personalizes the learning experience for each member through engaging project-based activities. It helps kids develop skills to perform well in school, graduate from high school college- or career-ready, and prepare for the demands of a technology-driven society.
The site interfaces with Mozilla Backpack to allow Coaches to approve modules to earn custom designed, covetable badges for Club Member achievements. The structure of the site allows lessons to be lead by Coaches for less experienced kids or self-directed for the more advanced Club Members.
Designing for the Users
The My.Future users range anywhere from 5 to 13 years old, so the choice of colorful photo realistic images keeps the look and feel of the modules age neutral, regardless of level. The front end is slick, responsive and lightweight.
The prototype was tested by Club Members before launch, and rapidly rolled out with minimal changes after testing.
Since My.Future 1.0’s launch in Fall 2014, it has become the hub of the educational technology initiative for the Boys & Girls Club nation wide, serving over 4 million members.
Club Member Project Sharing
Club members select an activity, make a project, and upload it to the social platform. I designed an easy to use upload flow to make sure that even the youngest members could participate.
